Test.

Ok - I stole this one from a bunch of you because I was procrastinating writing my already late development plan at work. (Does anyone else HATE writing development plans as much as I do???!?!?!??)

anyway.

test is here: http://mindmedia.com/braintest.html

This makes me sound a lot more awesome than I really am. I kinda want to take it again in a few days to see if I really would score differently. I am surprised that my left and right are so close. But it is correct on most accounts: I can't make decisions to save my life and I do often get anxious as I alternate between logic and impulse. I have math anxiety. Even though I kind of like math. I hate being tested. But I also like it. huh. I am pretty happy most of the time. Or at least I try to be. I am MUCH MORE than a LITTLE critical of myself and I don't think I downplay my creativity, but who knows, I spend so much time apologising for not being good enough at things that perhaps that is exactly what I'm doing. huh.

Your Brain Usage Profile:

Auditory : 37%
Visual : 62%
Left : 52%
Right : 47%

Arwen, you exhibit an even balance between left- and right- hemisphere dominance and a slight preference for visual over auditory processing. With a score this balanced, it is likely that you would have slightly different results each time you complete this self-assessment quiz.

You are a well-rounded person, distinctly individualistic and artistic, an active and multidimensional learner. At the same time, you are logical and disciplined, can operate well within an organization, and are sensitive towards others without losing objectivity. You are organized and goal-directed. Although a "thinking" individual, you "take in" entire situations readily and can act on intuition.

You sometimes tend to vacillate in your learning styles. Learning might take you longer than someone of equal intellect, but you will tend to be more thorough and retain the material longer than those other individuals. You will alternate between logic and impulse. This vacillation will not normally be intentional or deliberate, so you may experience anxiety in situations where you are not certain which aspect of yourself will be called on.

With a slight preference for visual processing, you tend to be encompassing in your perceptions, process along multidimensional paths and be active in your attacking of situations or learning.

Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself -- and of others -- while maintaining an "openness" which tempers that tendency. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity may not be in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, obvious and the more functional.

Okay, that is WEIRD! Because our scores are so similar we're almost twins, but the *slight* differences in scores led to an "analysis" that was different enough that I don't think my write-up could apply to you nor could yours apply to me. I wonder what kind of statistical significance this quiz has? We should all take it once a month and average our results. Although we'll have to correct for a "reinforcing" effect, where the more you see an answer, the more you tend to pick it due to familiarity than "correctness." See, that's my 5% more left-brain side talking...

ok. so i took it again. pretty amazing. about 50% of the test was different from the first one i took, so they must have a big pool of ?'s that are randomly generated. I got a rather different result. I think my initial test was a bit more on the mark:

Auditory : 44%
Visual : 55%
Left : 26%
Right : 73%

Arwen, you possess an interesting balance of hemispheric and sensory characteristics, with a slight right-brain dominance and a slight preference for visual processing.

Since neither of these is completely centered, you lack the indecision and second-guessing associated with other patterns. You have a distinct preference for creativity and intuition with seemingly sufficient verbal skills to be able to translate in any meaningful way to yourself and others.

You tend to see things in "wholes" without surrendering the ability to attend to details. You can give them sufficient notice to be able to utitlize and incorporate them as part of an overall pattern.

In the same way, while you are active and process information simultaneously, you demonstrate a capacity for sequencing as well as reflection which allows for some "inner dialogue."

All in all, you are likely to be quite content with yourself and your style although at times it will not necessarily be appreciated by others. You have sufficient confidence to not second-guess yourself, but rather to use your critical faculties in a way that enhances, rather than limits, your creativity.

You can learn in either mode although far more efficiently within the visual mode. It is likely that in listening to conversations or lecture materials you simultaneously translate into pictures which enhance and elaborate on the meaning.

It is most likely that you will gravitate towards those endeavors which are predominantly visual but include some logic or structuring. You may either work particularly hard at cultivating your auditory skills or risk "missing out" on being able to efficiently process what you learn. Your own intuitive skills will at times interfere with your capacity to listen to others, which is something else you may need to take into account.

I have to say mine is interesting - it does give light to why I resist sight reading music like a cat thrown in water, prefering to learn it in an auditory manner.

Your Brain Usage Profile:

Auditory : 78%
Visual : 21%
Left : 50%
Right : 50%

Zanne, you are balanced in your hemispheric dominance and a pre- dominantly auditory learner. This combination suggests that you are flexible in your perceptions and view of the world, while you prefer to learn in a deliberate and orderly fashion.

You have the capability to tolerate ambiguity well without surrendering the equally important ability to have strongly held views of your own.

Your perceptions balance between "the bigger picture" and the "details," which allows you to be flexible in your organization. You can work logically or skip from subject to subject with equanimity.

In much the same way, you have achieved balance between the abstract and the concrete, the symbolic and the functional. This permits you to focus on the concrete tasks which need to be completed in the present with a clear understanding of how they relate to the future.

The preeminence of your auditory mode of processing suggests that you orient towards processing materially in a sequential fashion. This may slow you down at times, and you might feel that you could do or learn things faster, causing some frustration.

What will generally be most important to you in learning and living is the "pace" or "rhythm" that you experience. More so than others, you will vary that rhythm in order to more effectively use the balance that you possess.

In the overall scheme of things, you will find yourself to be consistent in a wide range of activities. Your own artistic skills may well be more oriented to the theater or writing or even in music. If you have a sense of incompleteness, it could be attributed to the undeveloped visual learning and visual skills which are inherent in your development and you may be well-advised to pursue activities which would contribute to your growth in that way.
