holy crap. i'm going to africa.

holy crap. my mom and i bought plane tickets to tanzania this morning. holy crap.

this is where tanzania is:

the serengeti is in tanzania:

and so is mt. kilimanjaro:

and i will get to see them both. holy crap.

tanzania is the closest i have ever come to madagascar. it sort of makes me want to cry, but I will wave to the lemurs from mainland africa and let them know that I will be back for them some day. plus.... i mean, come on arwen, you will be in tanzania! holy shit! our plane tickets say 'kilimanjaro airport' on them. that is nuts.

just wanted to share.

Danie's folks just talked to us about the possibility of going with them to exactly that spot in Sep or Oct of next year. We will wait eagerly to hear how your trip goes :-)

awesome and you totally deserve a lovely amazing vacation (said with more than just a little touch of jealousy that you'll get to see what I've heard is an incredible part of the world).

At a Weenie Roast a couple of years ago a dear friend told a story about her lovely mother, a woman I knew well, and how she had accidentally climbed Kilimanjaro. She was in remission from one or other of the cancers that eventually got her and had gone off to Africa as she'd always wanted to hike on that mountain. Well, the trek she was on would only go as fast as the slowest person, so despite the fact that she'd intended to drop out of the hike at some point since she was not in the greatest shape, suddenly there they all were at the top. What a moment that must have been. Hope you have a wonderful trip!
