why oh why day jobs oh why??!??

Oh dear… one of those ‘I hate corporate soul-sucking interfacing initiativing synchronizing bullshit america’ days. I fear that there have been more and more of them of late, as my day job (which had been incredibly cushy and flexible and part-time and flex-time and vastly unsupervised until the past few months) is pushing me to go to a ridiculous amount of meetings and trainings and coachings and crap that I just could not care less about… Oh – and I’m supposed to turn into a financial analyst overnight. Huh. sorry. NO INTEREST.

Recently finished watching the entirety of The Office (BBC version). Yeah. Good stuff. Can’t help wishing there was more…

Climbed my first 5.10c (with a teeny weeny cheat) yesterday.

the therapeutic aspects of trees...

it’s a stupid tax deadline, so i don’t have a lot of time, but i wanted to ruminate on the oh-so-healing aspects of camping at the Point Reyes National Seashore. i think this just may be one of my favorite places on earth. Wonderful Trees. Stars. Air. Deer. Foxes. Birds of prey. Ocean. Waterfalls. Ridiculous Quail. Horsies. Swamps. Hunting Bats. Pure Happiness. Simplicity. So fucking nice.

You should go: www.nps.gov/pore/

small world...

very small.

so I had a second callback today at the Zspace for a theatre company called Word for Word: www.zspace.org/4adverbs.jsp

this callback went rather well…which is always nice. the crazy thing is…the show for which i was auditioning is written by Lemony Snicket (actually name: Daniel Handler), who i recently found out went to the same college as little ole moi (that would be the ubiquitous Wesleyan, located in Middletown, CT). THEN as i was reading the texts, i noticed that he mentioned yet another Wes alum, an Amanda Davis, who sadly died in a plane crash just around the time that her first novel, “Wonder When You’ll Miss Me” was taking off (WONDERFUL, chilling, moving, exquisite book) and i was standing there in the dim, shabby-ish, over-heated hallway thinking, “Damn, it is such a small world.” okay. yeah. but it gets better…

so - a mere half hour later, i am sitting with Dave at his work, where ANOTHER Wes alum (who happens to work with him) walks up behind us, and in the course of the ensuing conversation, tells me that she had recently been flying United and opened up their silly magazine to look at the movie and music selections for the month and saw in the ‘New Music’ section two selections, one following the other, that she recognized as 1) a band that had almost ‘made it’, whose lead guitarist works with her and Dave; and 2) another band, Dresden Dolls (www.dresdendolls.com), of whose 2 total members, 1 happens to have gone to Wes with us. Dear god. Small world.

Hanging from me knees…

so yesterday morning i found my way to the Circus Center of San Francisco. i walked in feeling completely out of place and like i hadn’t seen a gym mat in 15 years (which is probably true) and more than a little intimidated. a little over an hour later, i was suspended 15-18 feet in the air (in the smack dab center of the gym) from a rope that i had just CLIMBED with me own little hands and feets! ohmigoodness. can i just say that again?!?! i climbed up a rope. okay?!?!?! see - i was the girl in gym class who could barely manage the BAR HANG, let alone a goddamn pull-up. and yesterday, i somehow (almost gracefully, mind you!), hauled my 5’8’’ frame up a freaking rope. yeah. it was a personal victory. (actually the personal victory part was probably the fact that i managed not to burn off any skin on the way back down…) www.circuscenter.org

on an equally exciting, but not so strenuous note, i just finished “Saga of the Swamp Thing”, which kicked ass, and i think that i am developing a bit of a crush on the large mulchy tortured mass of greenness (but don’t worry Neil, you are still my #1 boyfriend)… also recently finished ‘Conrad’s Fate’, by Diana Wynne Jones, who REALLY deserves a wee slice of the attention pie afforded to that lad over at Hogwarts and the woman who created him.
